what is bikram yoga?
Bikram Yoga is a beginning yoga series designed to increase the quality of your life and health – mentally, physically, and spiritually. We do 26 beginner yoga postures (asanas) and 2 breathing exercises, working every system of the body, bones to skin.
The Bikram Yoga series, the original hot yoga, is a therapeutic yoga ideal for people wanting to improve the quality of their lives without the pressure of advanced or unguided practice. All of our 26 postures are beginning yoga asanas, sequenced and designed in a way to systematically warm up your body and go progressively deeper into every organ, tendon, and gland in the body.
We practice in a room heated to 105 degrees and 40% humidity. This is designed to decrease injury, increase flexibility, and improve your circulatory system. Bikram yoga has been associated with decreased blood pressure, lowered anxiety levels, and an overall better sense of wellbeing.
Your first class
All you need to do is come with a mat, towel, and water. These are available at our studio, if needed. Bring clothes you are comfortable stretching (and sweating) in. Plan on coming in 20 minutes before class to sign in and set yourself up in the room. We have showers and lockers available for you.
The first class is about allowing yourself to adjust to the heat. Make it your goal to stay in the room for the full 90 minutes, everything else comes with time.
